The Tonnara

Scopello, is located 40 km from Trapani and is one of the most sought-after places in the province as it preserves the incredible charm of authentic Sicily. Formed around its tuna fishery, La Tonnara, it has very ancient origins. In fact, it is the symbol of Scopello, with its ancient structures and the sea cliffs emerging from the sea. It was used in the past for tuna fishing, but today, it is one of the most beautiful and characteristic places to visit in Western Sicily! Besides visiting the tuna fishery or sunbathing, you can also take a dip in its crystal-clear waters!

What to see in Scopello?

“Lo Zingaro” Natural Reserve

Besides its splendid Tonnara, it is impossible not to visit “Lo Zingaro” Nature Reserve, the first of its kind in Sicily. The Reserve will be a paradise for hiking and nature lovers, as there is no electricity and even phone lines are limited; this makes it a perfect place to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with nature. What ae you going to find instead? A trail dotted with wonders, seven kilometers of natural beauty and breathtaking beaches. If you are not an expert in trekking, don’t worry, the Reserve offers three paths: the first is the easiest, while the others are progressively more challenging.

Scopello Village

The “Baglio” is the heart of Scopello, a small square surrounded by ancient stone houses, an old drinking trough, and many typical restaurants, shops, and bars where you can savor local cuisine, including the typical “pane cunzato”, seasoned bread with local oil, salt, tomato and fresh cheese.
